Between climate change and public demand for water to use in various ways, the pressure on the availability of groundwater resources is increasing substantially. This phenomenon will probably intensify with the likely prospect of +4°C warming in France by the end of the century, which will have a significant impact on the major water cycle and the functioning of aquifers and could exacerbate conflicts of use between sectors, between regions and even on an international level. BRGM focuses on supporting sustainable regional and local water resource management policies. It conducts research into the resilience of groundwater in the face of climate change and anthropogenic pressures and, in particular, studies the effect of nature-based solutions.
