Supporting a secure and responsible supply of mineral resources

To support the digital and energy transition, the European industrial sector requires continued access to metals that have become strategic. Recent crises have exposed the vulnerability of supply chains and the need to ensure sovereignty for critical raw materials. Amid these concerns, the European Union has introduced the European Critical Raw Materials Act, which aims to support secure and sustainable raw material supply. As part of this effort, BRGM is carrying out a mineral resources inventory of France’s subsurface. The institution’s expertise spans the whole life cycle of mineral materials and also involves value chain analysis and technological innovation to improve mineral extraction, processing and recycling, both of which are key to ensuring environmental sustainability and industrial sovereignty.
