Supporting a secure and responsible supply of mineral resources

The recent crises have underlined the need to secure the supply chains of strategic metals required for the digital and energy transformation, since the availability of such resources has become a major priority for the whole of Europe as it seeks to relaunch its industrial capacities. The new European Critical Raw Materials Act which was passed in 2023 requires Member States to assess their potential in terms of mineral resources. In France, an inventory was launched in 2024, managed by BRGM, whose expertise covers the entire mineral materials value chain. The organisation also draws on its competences to perform life-cycle assessments and develop technological innovations to improve processing and recycling.
