Risks linked to the ground and subsurface
Managing ground and subsurface risks to increase regional resilience

Much of France faces potential hazards from the climate, geology or human activity. These hazards can be increased by a combination of natural and man-made risks. The research and policy-support work conducted by BRGM focuses on the different levels of the risk chain: prevention, preparation, crisis management, adaptation and resilience. Protecting the health of soil degraded by erosion or pollution is another urgent challenge. To this end, BRGM has developed specific expertise in monitoring and managing former mining or industrial sites and also in the remediation of contaminated soil and water.
