Knowledge of the subsurface is at the core of BRGM’s remit and is a matter of strategic sovereignty. Essential for the sustainable or responsible management of natural resources – water, minerals and underground spaces – it provides the necessary basis for decisions on spatial planning and the protection of land areas. To address these challenges, BRGM is gathering and analysing a considerable volume of geoscientific data in order to gain a better understanding of the properties and behaviour of the subsurface. From field observations to numerical models, via measurements, analysis and data processing, this chain of knowledge is used to produce and disseminate reliable and accessible information to support public policy, local authorities and economic stakeholders.
